When is the best time to plant shrubs and trees in Northern Virginia?
Fall is actually the best time to plant most trees and shrubs in Northern Virginia — cooler temperatures and fall rainfall allow roots to establish before the stress of summer heat. Spring is the second-best window. Summer planting is possible but requires more intensive watering. Hall's plants year-round and adjusts care recommendations based on the season.
Do you help with plant selection or do I need to know what I want?
Hall's handles everything including plant selection. You don't need to walk in with a list — just tell us what you're going for (low maintenance, color, privacy screening, shade, etc.) and we'll recommend plants that are suited to your specific yard conditions. We factor in sun exposure, soil type, drainage, and the existing landscape when making recommendations.
Where do you source your plants?
Hall's only uses locally sourced plants and trees from established Northern Virginia nurseries. Locally grown plants are already acclimated to our climate and soil conditions, which gives them a significantly better chance of thriving than plants shipped in from other regions. We never use big-box store plants for our installations.
